about

on february 25, 2024, Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old serviceman of the US air force, committed an act of self-immolation outside the front gate of the embassy of israel in washington, DC. immediately prior to the act, Bushnell said on a live stream that he was protesting "what people have been experiencing in palestine at the hands of their colonizers" and declared that he "will no longer be complicit in genocide", after which he doused himself with a flammable liquid and lit himself on fire. as he burned, Bushnell repeatedly shouted "free palestine!" while a police officer pointed a gun at him and local emergency services arrived on scene. rest in power Aaron Bushnell

lyrics

b7 e

there are no nonbelievers in the depths of a foxhole

let me light myself on fire

and pray the lord will save my soul

will i die a martyr or will i go to hell

c d b7

i’ve already seen the worst, done things that i won’t tell

i have seen the terrors that lurk under the surface

while you hold onto what you claim to be your faith

b7 e

i have met the devil he holds a ballpoint pen

he signs away the lives of thousands of young men

prescribes me little pills

while he signs his little bills

he painted his house white

to cover up his lies

c d

landlord special scorch marks

b7 em

oh, the scorch marks

so let me light myself on fire

for the whole world to see

the police draw their guns

and i fell onto my knees

c d b7 em

there are no nonbelievers in the depths of a foxhole

c d

let me light myself on fire

b7

pray the lord will save my soul

will i die a martyr? will i go to hell?

i’ve already seen the worst, done some things that i won’t tell

so i fell down on the steps

and with my final breath

c d g am e

i prayed that we were free

c d g am e

i prayed that we were free

b7 em

finally heard my screams

finally i set myself free

died for somethin bigger than you and me

c d g am e

i fell down on my knees
